Our new backpackers hostel in Sighetu Marmatiei is ideally situated for exploring the beautiful and unspoilt Maramures region of Romania. We offer clean and safe budget accommodation and individual tour services to travellers, students and backpackers of all ages. Our large family-managed hostel is located in a quiet garden, close to the town centre and is only 10 minutes walk away from the railway and bus stations. Sighet has lots to offer from outstanding scenery, beautiful walks along the river Isa and up in the hills, through the forests and to local villages. We have many churches and museums to explore. Sighet holds frequent festivals and has many shops, restaurants, cafes, bars and clubs. This frontier town now has an active border crossing point into the Ukraine.
Maramures is a beautiful and timeless forgotten land that is surrounded by alpine hills and snow capped mountains. Famous for its traditional wooden churches, ornate wooden gateways and gorgeous wooden villages - within this region their are 8 World Heritage Sites to explore!
Maramures is one of the best preserved area of Europe, where ancient European tradition and folklore are still practised. Here you will frequently see people wearing folk costume, other familiar sights are horse and ox-drawn carts on the roads and village lanes.
